Traveling with Toddler? 8 Things You Must Pack

Whether you’re planning a day trip to Grandma’s house or a week long excursion across the country, it is important to be prepared when traveling with a toddler.

It is easy to over prepare and pack everything under the sun. That’s why it’s important to choose carefully so that you have what you need but don’t get bogged down with lots of gears.

Traveling Checklist for your kids

The following 8 items should be in your bag any time you travel with a toddler:

  1. Snacks. Choose healthy options that make as little mess as possible. For longer trips, you should also bring child-sized plastic utensils so that you’re prepared for a meal time.

  2. Refillable Sippy Cup. Forgo water bottles and juice boxes for the little one and opt for a sippy cup that you can keep filling with water as needed.

  3. Sturdy toys. Select toys without small parts that are not easy to lose. You may want to reserve a few special toys or pick up a new item for a trip to increase interest.

  4. Diapers. Even if your toddler is toilet trained, it is best practice to keep a few extra diapers and diaper changing supplies on hand (i.e. rash cream).

  5. Wipes. On a similar note, it is easy to forget about wipes once your kid is not wearing diapers. Wipes are great for cleaning up messes on the go.

  6. Sunscreen. As you need to reapply sunscreen every couple hours, you should bring it with you for any sort of day or extended trip. Choose a kid-friendly formula with SPF 30 or higher.

  7. A Change of Clothes. Bring one or two extra outfits for each day of travel. Opt for laying pieces that you can mix and match depending on the weather.

  8. First Aid Supplies. Prepare a small first aid kit with band aids, pain reliever and gear for treating minor injuries.
